Tuesday May 3rd we made it to the Italian Riviera in Santa Margherita, Italy. The first picture shows a charter boat that we had to take from our ship to the port. It’s a small town with lots of neat cafe’s and hotels with beautiful houses built on the hillside. The next picture shows a smaller port that we took a charter boat to, a very relaxing and tropical place with it’s clear blue water. The last picture is the house of my dreams. It sits on the edge of a cliff and is up for sale for only 15 million euro, nbd.
It was a very busy day with so much to see. One day isn’t nearly enough time to see everything Rome has to offer. The Vatican was super busy being the day after the beautification of Saint John Paul. Two million people made it to the Vatican that day and so many more stayed today to see the tomb of Saint John Paul. Because it was so busy we weren’t able to see the basilica but besides that it was amazing being there during such an important time. It was really cool seeing Trevi fountain, the colosseum, and all the roman art that I studied in school.
Our day at Trapani started out by driving about 30 mins inland of the peninsula up the mountain. It was a thick foggy morning as we entered the small rustic town or Erice. A castle sits on top surrounded by little shops and homes off the narrow roads. A spectacular view of the city below is seen as soon as the fog burns off.
We are the first cruise ship, let alone the first tourists since the revolution on January 14th and welcomed with open arms. My Uncle (pictured above) along with my mom and step dad were interviewed by the Tunisian news about what it’s like to be in their country.Tunis is very rich in culture but is also very underdeveloped and I hope for success in there quest for a democratic country.
It’s hard to pick one picture from the The Antoni Gaudí tour that we went on but I chose this one from the church of La Sagrada Família. It’s the rear of the church representing the passion, the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s his modernistic style that he is not that well known for but very fitting for the event and a good contrast to the opposite facade which expresses the joy of all creation at the birth of Jesus. The tour was quick as I didn’t have time to take the elevator to the top but maybe in 15 years when the building is complete.
